John's Inspiration
"The Point of Least Resistance" began the way many of my process-focused pieces do: without a sketch, without a plan, just shapes, lines, and colors guiding my next move. As the forms layered and started locking together, a sense of motion emerged, and eventually the abstract suggestion of a race car revealed itself. Angular passages and rounded contours began to interconnect like mechanical components, while shifting bands of color created the illusion of airflow and acceleration.
It felt fitting, honestly. November & December always has that “race to the finish line” energy, and I’ve been feeling that momentum in my own life too. Sometimes the paintings we make end up reflecting what’s happening beneath the surface, and this one definitely did. The idea of moving forward, finding flow, and following the path of least resistance became part of the story as the piece unfolded.
In the end, what started as pure exploration turned into a visual metaphor, an abstract machine of motion reminding me that progress often appears when I follow the flow rather than try to force the outcome.
