John's Inspiration
This piece began with movement with marks, shapes, and lines stacking like building blocks. Somewhere in that process, a figure started to take shape. Not literal, not defined, but unmistakably present. It felt like a resting guardian, something rooted and watching, built from color, rhythm, and memory.
I’ve always been drawn to the symbolic weight of Kachina figures and how they stand as bridges between the physical and spiritual worlds. I wasn’t painting a specific one, but the energy of that idea found its way into the work. The geometry, the bold color breaks, the vertical forms created a piece that felt both grounded and powerful.
