John's Inspiration:
My wife and I love giving a few peanuts to the birds and squirrels that visit our backyard—it’s become a daily ritual. For this painting, I decided to capture that theme. Watching the animals collect food, splash around in the birdbaths, and seeing young squirrels chase each other is pure entertainment. But some of the birds? They’re downright demanding! Scrub Jays, Oak Tits, crows, and a few others will perch nearby, giving us a look like, “Alright, I’m here—where are the peanuts?”
When I don’t see them, but I’m ready to put the nuts out, I sometimes try mimicking their calls. Do they respond? Maybe. Do my neighbors think I’ve lost it? Probably. But hey, it’s all part of the fun!
Originally I wrote in the upper left hand corner "Hey human, your bird calls suck, but your juicy unsalted p-nuts don't. ETA 3 sec."
