John's Inspiration
"Woodland Crown" is inspired by the European Crested Tit, a small but striking songbird that thrives in coniferous forests. With its distinctive crest and bold markings, this bird carries a quiet confidence, navigating the woodland with agility and curiosity. I based this painting on a stunning photograph by the talented German nature photographer Anke Kneifel, whose work beautifully captures the essence of wildlife in its natural habitat.
This marks the final bird of Birduary—31 birds released over the course of January, each one a celebration of nature, movement, and spirit. Ending the series with this regal little bird feels like the perfect way to close out the month.
